Summary

We would like to remove about 15 feet of cast iron drain pipe and replace it with something new. This is NOT an emergency job.

Problem

We recently discoved water dripping from the ceiling in our basement. We removed part of a 1st floor wall to find that the cast iron drain pipe had developed a crack. We've patched the crack with epoxy, so there is no longer a leak. However, the pipe is ancient and has significant corrosion. We do not trust it. Since the wall is already open and the pipe is exposed, we figured now would be a good time to replace it.

Full description

This is a fully-exposed, straight-up-and-down cast iron stack, with no branches or connections (except for the top and bottom). It runs from the 1st-floor ceiling down to the basement. The top connection is copper, probably from the mid-1960s, I think 3" ID. This serves an upstairs bathroom, and is connected to a roof vent. We do not want to touch this copper -- it seems to be in good shape, and we really want to avoid cutting up the floor/walls of the bathroom, which has been recently remodeled. The bottom connection is 4" ID PVC, which was installed less than 2 years ago. The entire length of cast iron stack is exposed. So, I expect/hope there will not need to be any additional demolition work needed for this project.
